In traditional grammar, an auxiliary verb is a verb that provides additional grammatical and semantic information to a verb of complete meaning.
Typically the auxiliary verb carries the endings of number and grammatical person, and the verb to which it accompanies remains in a non-personal form (in Spanish, for example, infinitive, gerund or participle). In spite of this, the semantic load falls on the main verb and, therefore, it is the one that selects its subject and its complements
